Too dark

Hi, any idea why I can't get HL2 bright enough to play? In video options I can move the gamma slider to it's brighest setting but I still can't see a single line of text let alone 3.

If I adjust my display settings before going into the game so that the screen is brighter to begin with, it doesn't seem to make any difference. When the main menu comes up, everything is dark again.

I have a Radeon 850 XT graphics card.

Thanks

Try Doom 3 or Silent Hill!

I don't think it's really dark looking at all, but kinda too muddy in some locations.

Try turning on light in your room.

Or, better yet, if it is too bright outside, close the curtains.

Can you see the menu or is it black when you start the game? If the second try waiting a while.

i am just wondering...why does all the noobs put hi, hey, hello, etc. in their posts, i mean just come out and say what you want to say sont beat around the bush.

brightness selection ingame? and all the other things said earlier

Theres nothing wrong with saying hello. I had this English teacher who used to bitch endlessly at people whenever they say "in my opinion". "OF COURSE IT'S YOUR OPINION! YOU'RE THE ONE TELLING ME!"

It's as if they can't state fact.

I can see the menu, I just can't get the game bright enough for my liking. Too dark and I'm missing things.

It's a serious question because I have another PC with a different graphics card and on that one I had the same problem, but if I adjust the screen brightness slightly first before playing it then it's fine. I've completed the game. Now I have a new PC and I'm having another go at it.

Serious answers are appreciated.

My god, there are some A holes on this board. There's gamma selection in the graphics options. What's the point of having that option if you can't get the screen as bright as it said it should be? Maybe you should check into this instead of launching into a slanging match.

I'm sorry, I can't help. Our most intellegent memebers don't seem to be online at the moment. I have a feeling iMMuNiTy is going to be banned.

You can say asshole here, we're pretty calm for the most part.

Welcome to the boards friend.

Hmm... is it possible to try the monitor from this other PC with the PC you're having trouble with? Darkness problems seem to be a monitor problem to me; you may simply need a new one. Of course, that's hardly the greatest solution to your woes. And try that link in Pesmerga's posts, even if he's being unneccessarily angry that you've probably skipped over it :p

Not that I'm trying to say your an idiot, but you do know that in HL2 the brightness slider is reversed, right? (as in sliding it right makes it darker, sliding it left makes it brighter) If that's not your problem, try messing around with mat_monitorgamma in the console or turn up the brightness settings on your monitor.

You forgot to take off your sunglasses you little nasty MIB boy!!! :D

In Windows, go to the advanced video options, click on the Options tab, then the Full Screen 3D profile, and turn up the gamma.

very good program
i used to have darkness/brightness problems with pretty much all my games and i tried quite a few programs and had almost given up hope in getting this problem sovled...until one day someone points me to that URL.

i had nothing to lose and so i tried and OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT WORKED!!!!!! :imu:
so yeah, i suggest people with darkness/brightness problems try this program called Powerstrip.
it has many different options for overclocking and such but the darkness/brightness options are the ones i use mostly.. give it go if u have such problems.

if its dark while playing hl2 then imagine how dark it would be in doom 3? you probably couldnt see man that is one dark game.

why do you say that?
I second that question. Perhaps I should start a poll if people hate me or no. :D

As for the brightness settings, kid, there are lots of them. Download the program Pesmerga gave, tune up the brightness by the buttons or wheel on your monitor, go into your video card driver settings... There are a lot of options.

Calm down id boy we know.

It's also dark because theres no duct tape available, because weapons of the future aren't customizable for extensions.

But I'll give you one thing at least they have flashlights that don't need to stop and be recharged everytwenty seconds. But it seems the UAC can only afford such cheap dim bulbs/
