Funny, i've been living in the states my entire 19 years and haven't seen a single sex act on public TV. I've seen lots of innuendos and suggestions and sexual appeal, but never any sexual acts whatsoever. I'm not saying sex is a bad thing. in fact it is a very good thing when it is done in moderation. it is just when you have a society centered around sex it gets abused, and anything that is abused becomes a problem in that persons life, or prehaps an addiction. let me preface that by saying "amsterdam kicks ass." that said, youre probably right, its not a positive thing. but what negative effects does it have? it likely makes for a happier populace. these things become regulated and allowed, thus the activities become safer. for example, if the government legalized marijuana, taxed it with a cheaper price than drug dealers, how does that negatively effect society? most people who dont smoke arent going to start smoking just because its okay with the government. it also gets rid of those drug dealers and the problems that arise with them. i personally am against abortion unless necessary for the womans (or males ;\) survival, yet if amsterdam likes it fine. unless you've been to amsterdam, it would be difficult for you to know what an awesome country it is.

weed isnt a gateway drug, i know because i and a bunch of my friends smoke. and drink. i'm not going to do anything 'worse' than marijuana, because they and i arent stupid. youre friends dont accurately portray society. holland has fewer drug abusers per thousand than france, and spain. they certainly dont have any epidemic. youre wrong, heroine and cocain and other 'hard drugs' are forbidden in holland, id like to see where you got that fact from or if you just made it up.
