Doug Lombardi said in an interview a year or two ago the episode 3 will not be the last time you play as gordan freeman. Whether or not thats changed since then is yet to be announced.

EDIT:I mean, being frustratingly hard and gruelingly difficult didn't stop it being incredibly satisfying to blow up a strider with a single pistol shot.
