Don't get me wrong, I liked the game when I first got it, but after a while, certain things used to drive me up the wall:
1. Headcrab/Crowbar interface - I never wanted to use my expensive ammo on the headcrabs, so I did the only thing I could and got up close and personal with them. Typical maneuvre: have a headcrab attack and just miss me, and I turn back to it, bend down and hammer with all my might. Really tiresome after a while.
2. Endless crates - Now, I never liked the crates in Quake 2, but at least I knew I would never have to bash through EACH and EVERY ONE OF THEM to seek out the slightest bits of health or ammo contained therein. I'd use the odd tripmine or grenade to speed things up, but it still took ages!
3. Annoying weapons - I have to admit, some HL weapons were cool, but others were annoying. The cool: That weapon that fires short sharp beams of energy, I love the electrical "Star Wars" style effect; The annoying: The marine's machine gun, the "hornet" gun, the continuous beam weapon (too loud).
4. Annoying aliens - For every cool Vortigaunt (complete with lightning effect) there's a bloody Alien Grunt (irritating stomping noise, irritating "hornet gun" effect and excruciating hornet "crunch" sound when they hit - buut, at least they sound good when they die.
5. Obvious jumping (and later timing) puzzles - OK, not so obvious at first, with that bit with all the suspended crates just prior to "Office Complex", but I mean later on at the Lambda reactor. Oh, and don't get me started on Xen!
6. Xen - Pretty to look at, but an absolute BITCH to negotiate! Enough said.
Any of you concur?
