Will Orange Box get the attention it deserves...

among the console players of PS3 and 360? I have the 360, and really, this is THE game i am most looking forward to this year, even more than Halo 3 and Bioshock(although im getting those later). Anyway, sadly I think the Orange Box wont see much love from the console players(especially the 360 owners), with Bioshock, Halo3,COD4 and Madden coming out soon. I've been telling all my friends about this package, but most dont really put thought into finding out more about the amazing HL series. so for all you xbox and ps3 owners, tell your friends about this package, Valve deserves a welcome place for console owners!

I've made a thread about the HL series (or Valve, for that matter) not getting the attention it deserves. While you seem to worried console owners will not be flocking to this beloved box, I still reserve hope that Valve's sudden adaptation to consoles will be the stepping stone to a much more ample fanbase.

They need ad's they need gears style commercials. Put one up showing some of the crazy shit and boom you got yourself major attention.

I agree, if they have commericals (for instance) that would increase its popularity abit. Although I don't have a 360 or a PS3, but I hope to get a 360 one of these days.

The fact that the Orange Box is coming a few weeks after Halo 3 is a big damper, I imagine. Commercials would help, but wouldn't they just be more like the trailers we've seen?

I miss the black box. I hope they put Ep 2 in it's own box...

enough with the halo 3, oh no etc. has anyone not realised that, just maybe the hl series is bigger than halo??

I liked the story of Halo 1, but since Halo 2 is Vista only I havn't played it yet.

As much as id like to say it is, its not even close. Halo will sell more then Half-Life any day and by the millions. Sad but true. This is Valves time to break into the console guys and get some steam rolling for future titles. You never know they might just beat it out this time.

Planet, I'm pretty sure it is, though I could be wrong. The Legit version, I mean.

As for Halo being more popular than Valve games, who gives a flying hell?

yes it really pisses me off, valve set such a horrible release date, but its not really their fault. also, they should bother with advertising their game in a huge scale, they should ask EA to do something about this.

It does really piss me off that valve sucks at advertising, it's like gold covered in loads of shit..

Meh. I like things the way they are. I wouldn't like my beloved HL2 to be talked about by 12 year old n00bs who don't understand the purpose of a weapon without 100x zoom or whatever.

...

all i care is for valve to get more cash and attention to make even better games in the future..

I don't care if it doesn't get the attention it deserves, as long as me get to kill some hunters.

Agreed. It may not be a better game, but it's much more widely known and played by the masses of casual gamers.

They could do a Bioshock-like trailer and air it when kids watch the TV. Then you-know-who would bash it for being ultra-violent and produced by Rockstar, and it'd sell lots.

they could just advertise through steam

Yea, but still, Steam isn't that popular. It has millions of users yea, but there are more millions with playing other games. And I think Valve's style has came quite old, newer games like Stalker, BioShock and FEAR have all some special stuff, Stalker has large amount of guns, you can carry them on backpack, there are many roleplay elements like eating, BioShock has the awesome water physics, atmossphere, Big Daddy's and stuff like that, and FEAR has the kick, slow-mo, awesome AI and graphics and horror.

Half-Life 2 is old-school game, it doesn't have any special features, guns are the basic except Gravity Gun. And the enemies are quite same always, soldiers soldiers and more soldiers, sometimes maybe zombies and headcrabs too.

I like that kind of simple gaming, but it just doesn't get into newer gamers. Nobody in school is really interested in HL2, because there are games like Guild ars and World of Warcraft, with the special abilites and such. And everybody is like that. It is roleplaying games that are taking over now, and the graphics. We who have played games for long, don't really care of graphics in games like Half-Life 1 and other. But the new players, who's first game has been FEAR or such and are looking for Crysis and games with good graphics, say no to these old games. It is shame that these old-school FPS games are going under the titles like Halo, Fallout, WoW and so.

This October release doesn't make it any better, since all games are coming out then. GTA IV moved to March 08 because it would probably get under the other titles coming out.

That is the cold truth.

Half-Life 2 is old-school game? What the heck?
The Orange Box can kick ass every new game, in graphics, gameplay and story.

I bought legit Halo 2 for PC and I can play it on XP. You just need to know how.

100 posts.

Not to most Xbox owners. Orange Box will sell bucketloads on the PC because it's Half-Life, not so for the the Xbox and PS3.

I have never met a single person that has played HL2, or even heard of it :(

Yep, but the newbies don't care about those. I am almost only one who really playes Half-Life from our school, everyone else is in WoW, Guild Wars or else. Or some other games like those. But they just think that HL is stupid game, with bad graphics and gameplay.

But well, they have just played the train ride of HL1 and said "This game sucks" and went back to GW.

It's really rediculus, forking G4 had a day celebrating the release of Halo 2. I couldn't believe it, and X-play had it ranked 8th All-time as one of the greatest game's ever made. \o/. Luckly they said Half-Life 2 was ranked 5th.

But it is saddening, Half-Life never gets the attention it truly deserves. :|

You must tell how. DO IT! NAU!

Well I don't know if getting it to work on XP is legal, but there is a patch that disables what ever it uses to check if you have Vista. But I'm not going to post it. 'Cause it might not be Legal.

Anyone here know why Halo is so much more popular? Do they advertise more or something?
I suppose Stene is right, HL2 is kind of old-school compared to Bioshock. Bioshock is extremely inovative, pushing back boundaries like HL and HL2 did when they came out. HL2 is still an excellent game, what with the life-like characters, constant absence of cutscenes, puzzles, immersive storyline, beautifull art and sound etc, but Bioshock is so much more new... and more advertised.

Half-Life needs adverts. Good ones.

Better PR work, and a much more active multiplayer community so that the game becomes more widely known by word of mouth.

And as for comparing Bioshock and HL2- they're different in a lot of important ways, and comparing them is not really valid.

I don't know about you guys, but generally I buy games that I see getting good reviews and which have a good word-of-mouth reputation.

Bioshock wasn't even especially on my radar until I saw it get 95% in PC Gamer UK, which is what swayed me to buy it. Sure, it's nice to have an advert, but...

And Halo 2, 8th best game ever? I want what those guys are smoking. It's an alright game, but it's really flawed in a lot of ways. At least it doesn't have anything like the Library from Halo though.... urgh.

In the biggest Finnish gaming magazine called Pelit, Half-Life was rated 5th on greatest games ever on this years voting.

WoW, Gears of War and Guild Wars beat it damnit. And they mentioned no F.E.A.R or S.T.A.L.K.E.R in that...

It's because it's a console game. Console games tend to be more popular than PC. Half-life 2 was a little too late for the xbox.

HL2 isn't old school. I'd argue it does much more than STALKER; more weapons and stuff like that aren't a better way of doing things at all. STALKER and HL2 can't even be compared, because they are very different and set out to do much different things.

HL2 offers a cinematic experience; unlike most games (and in this case, makes it very evolutionary) offers much more than a shooting gallery (time and time again games do this, and there's only a few who really try and break the mold - hl2, mgs and re4 to name a few). It provides constant, changing gameplay scene after scene, rather than sifting through enemy after enemy. That isn't old school, that's progress. Old school is people thinking that more weapons = a better game. Comparing the likes of HL2 and STALKER is kinda dumb, considering they both have very, very different sets of goals.

There's some truth in what Stene was saying though. There's the ludicrous idea that rpgness>all.

I don't think HL2 would work well as an RPG. If they had to make an RPG about it (similar in style to stalker from what I've read) it wouldn't be about Gordon.
