I am getting really fed up with him. I was a huge supporter of his ever since he announced back in 2007. But his administration has been one of the biggest political disappointments I have ever seen. He threw everything he stood for during the campaign under the bus and has moved the country further to the right than any Republican president could ever dream of.

Now we are at the point where he is openly supporting a plan that would lower taxes even further on rich people, it would cut social security, cut medicare and do almost nothing to slow defense spending. If he goes through with it I'm not voting for the guy in 2012, even if the alternative is Bachmann I really don't give a shit at this point.

I'll consider anything, but I really doubt the Republicans can pull any real contender out of their ass. So far the only potentials are complete retards.

Really depends on who runs against him. More than likely I'll stick with Brobama.

Nope. Granted he's not had much to work with and Bush left him a mess, but he could've done a better job.

Didn't support him in 2008, probably going to stay that way.

Also, lol "change."

Depends who the republican nominee is. Obama is just trying to be bipartisan and moderate, can't fault him really since conservatives would crucify him instantly given the chance... I'm hoping that if he has a second term he will be a bit more progressive and determined.

Honestly he's always gonna be preferable to the Republican candidate, especially if some total idiot wackjob like Bachmann or Palin gets the nomination (or vice president spot on the ticket). Remember too that if you don't vote Democrat in favor of some small libertarian or green candidate or whatever like Ron Paul you are essentially giving your vote to the Republican party.

I think the only way I'll vote for anyone but Obama is if Gary Johnson somehow gets the Republican nomination, because he's actually pretty great.

I like how all these moron conservatives are like LOOOOL HE DIDNT CHANGE NOTHIN when that's entirely due to the Republican party dragging its feet and whining and filibustering every single moderate thing Obama tries to do... if he was actually trying to promote liberal programs it would be even worse, it'd get even more nowhere.

I really like Gary Johnson actually, wish he would get more attention. He was actually a really good governor of my state. But he lost me as soon as he started pandering to the far right during this election cycle.

And don't get me wrong, I have no illusions about voting for a 3rd party I might as well be pissing my vote away. But I am okay with that. What I am sick of is being forced to vote for the lesser of 2 evils. I don't really believe that everything Obama has done was because the republicans were just way too mean to him and he couldn't get much done. I'm starting to believe that he actually likes the policies he was so strongly against just a few years ago when he was running in the Democratic primaries.

He threw the public option under the bus and replaced it with a mandate he swore he was always against. He seems far more willing to take on the left than the right and is proud of that. He participates in the same exact absues that Bush did when it comes to national security. And now he is openly talking about making cuts to programs Democrats have always promised they wouldn't cut while giving rich people more tax breaks.

Sure, the republican running against him might be worse. But Obama truly is no different on the issues than republicans themselves were just a few years back, and I hated republicans back then for their positions on these issues. So why should I give Obama a pass?

So why should I give Obama a pass?

Well, all I can say is... look at the alternative. I'd rather have an ineffective, spineless, slightly more sane president than a completely honest, super effective, totally batshit crazy president. I look at how Obama views and tries to treat poor people, women, gays/lesbians, non-whites, etc, and then compare these fundamental aspect to the republican candidates, and I can't see how I could live with myself should I do nothing to keep them out of the office.

You think Ron Paul is a retard?

I said "real contenders."

I think the whole "Obama isn't as good as I expected" thing is pretty dumb too. For one, the Republicans have shit on him in every way imaginable solely to make people think that way. Sure, theres some cases where Obama seems to have clearly changed his mind about what he wants for specific things, but that doesn't surprise me too much, since that completely natural, to change your opinion when you get better information. Even so, the vast majority of stuff he has tried to get was in-line with his initial claims, its just that Republicans wanted to **** him every way possible. One of my main gripes with Obama is that he is too spineless, and makes too many concessions in the name of bi-partisanship. Rather than finding a decent middle ground, he just lets the Republicans bitch and whinge about every god damn thing until they get what they want. I don't know how he could avoid that, but at least he could expose the Republicans for this shit, rather than letting everyone put the blame entirely on him. As far as I'm concerned, his presidency was a Republican success, because they got some of the stuff they wanted, prevented Democrats from getting anything they wanted, and got Obama to be the scapegoat for all of it. If a Republican gets in office next term, it will be even worse, because at least Obama has been acting as a floodgate for all the crazy ass bullshit the right wants.

That said, if somehow we get a new person who is a more effective version of Obama, then Its certainly possible I'd vote for him.

I don't think that what he got is in anyway in-line with what he originally said during the campaign.

Mandate? He beat Hillary Clinton over the head with that and said it would be like trying to fix homelessness with a mandate everyone live in a house. One of the main reasons I supported him over Hillary.

Drug Reimportation? Sold out to the drug companies for exchange to have ads aired on his behalf for healthcare reform.

Not going after medical marijuana dispensaries that follow state law? Lied about that.

Reforming patriot act, not sending national security letters, stopping rendition? All lies. I have a feeling we still torture as well.

Bush tax cuts which he said he would let expire? Renewed them for 2 years and now he is pushing for even deeper tax cuts.

Those are just the things that come to mind. And yes, a republican will be worse. But if that's what we have to go by when voting then I say **** that. If Democrats expect that we will vote for them no matter what just because the other guy is worse what possible incentive do they have to change? None, and they will keep moving to the right year after year as they have been doing for the last couple of decades to the point where Ronald Reagan almost seems liberal compared to Obama. What needs to happen is Democrats need to learn to fear their base just as much as Republicans fear theirs.

Well, a lot of that stuff, isn't stuff he can change on his own, he'd need help from congress, who has shut down everything he has tried to do. The tax cut extension is exactly what I mean when I say Republicans getting what they want, its not something Obama wants, and the fact he is pushing for more is, again, republicans forcing him to do it, and him complying in the name of bi-partisanship. Some of that stuff, like the drug shit, probably just hasn't come up yet, what with all the other incredibly huge problems that need to be taken care of first. I mean, I'm not saying that shit didn't happen, I'm just saying that he's like a filter, letting the smaller republican crap go through while stopping some of the more major stuff. I fail to see how just straight up removing a bad filter and letting everything though is a better idea than keeping a shit one until you find a better one. You can argue that democrats wont change, but honestly, I think at some point a real person will show himself, and then we can vote him in, democrat or not. We just need to buy time lol.

Its a shitty situation, for sure, but thats what happens when we have a two party system thats completely taken over by corporate and personal interests. What you want is impossible at this point, and your suggestion to just give up is a terrible one.

Nothing happening = government working.

why do people like ron paul

also, nobama. not my president. he's a piece of crap at this, but what's new? :p

i am actually expecting the actual republican candidate to be a real contender. bachman, palin, and all those idiots aren't actually going to make it anywhere besides the frontpage for their extremist moronic views, but i think the republican party is smart enough to put a moderate up for election to sway the massive amount of moderates away from obama loose change, AMIRITE

This pretty much sums up how I would have responded to your question No Limit. I don't really feel good about playing into the retarded system in the first place, and yes, Obama is really only marginally better than the alternative, but I still feel like my vote has to go somewhere, and by voting for the lesser moron at least I'm helping mitigate the potential damage instead of just checking out and giving up on the whole system.

I'm not voting this time around. Not only does my vote only work at the local level, but I don't want any more regrets

I am just incredibly curious what Obama's campaign will be like, especially aesthetically. Being in a lot of design classes we've discussed in detail, the success of the Obama's campaign due to a lot of design choices. So I am really curious what direction they will take it in, and if other candidates will try to emulate a similar style.

Agreed, I'm almost certain none of the current "contenders" will be around come primaries, and it would be very smart of the right to put up a soft spoken moderate up to the plate. Even if he's only moderate by appearances, they'd get a lot of disenfranchised voters over to their side just be being a little more rational than those in the spotlight over the last few years.

And is Palin actually a candidate now?

Unless she announced this week, she isn't.

If your vote is as meaningless as you think, you wouldn't have reason to regret your voting history.

And why regret voting history in a serious way? Shit, you can feel bad that you voted for a guy who turned out to be a complete dipshit(as in when I voted for Bush), but he sounded good to you at the time for whatever reason at that point in your life. Hindsight is 20/20, you don't have to regret everything because you see it in retrospect because all it does is makes you strive for perfection in a completely intangible, meaningless way.

They're choices. We all make bad choices all the time. That's another reason why you don't have to put up with shit morons give you for who you voted for at an election x number of years ago. Those people are just striving for the same meaningless perfection.

Don't vote; it only encourages them.

I probaly won't vote at all unless the only other option we have is Bachman or Palin.
Then I'd rather put up with another 4 years of Mr.Spineless.

I swear, if governor Rick Perry gets the Republican ticket (and he's angling for it, let me assure you) I will start boning up on my target shooting. That slimy asshole is renowned for pushing his own agenda above that of Texas's best interests every ****ing opportunity he gets. He decided to use a gubernatorial mandate to force all girls age 12+ to get an HPV vaccine, despite the fact that Merck, the manufacturer, had done NO testing whatsoever on the safety of use in that age group. I'll give you three guesses why he did that (hint: he used to work with/for Merck).

Seriously, if he goes for el presidente I call on all good American HL2.net denizens to slam his ass out of the race. You WILL regret your choice if you choose him, no matter how moderate he sounds on the Republican side of things.

If he only had had some balls and told the GOP to go **** themselves while the Democrats still had a majority in both houses, he could've gotten a lot of shit done. I understand the value of consensus-building, but sometimes you just have to ignore what your political enemies think of you.

You guys all think so two dimensional...

I'm voting 3rd party no matter what. The two options we're given are ALWAYS bad, we need a 3rd party to come to power in the states, and that won't happen so long as people refuse to vote 3rd party.

last time I checked, they don't let retards through med school..

You would be surprised. If you have good grades and get past the interview, it's very, very difficult to flunk out of med school.

Having no personal investment in terms of the whole affair, but keeping a regular eye on things from this side of the pond I have to say that it it seems like Obama has tried his damnedest to get things done to improve the US situation and been deliberately Cockblocked at every opportunity by a Bullish Republican Party and right wing media circus whose sole agenda seems to be to ensure that the US economy doesn't recover on his watch. Frankly the guy inherited a complete mess form 'Dubya' and if the Republican party had any respect for the US citizenry as a whole they'd of set aside their political differences for two years and allowed the government to try and get some recovery projects on the go. But instead the same people who when anyone didn't wholeheartedly agree with 'Dubyas' actions dubbed them 'Un-American' are all suddenly against 'big government'. Where were they when 'Dubya' was pushing through the patriot act and setting up homeland security? Oh yeah underneath his desk with his cock firmly down their gullet.

Frankly I haven't seen one Republican candidate whose remotely on planet earth. Your government need money in order to clear the deficits, you've got to raise taxes and go after the rich & the corporations, instead of continually squeezing the middle class. The present situation is unsustainable.

Right now I think the more important thing though is that Boehner quit acting like a f**king moron and agree a deal before the c**t deliberately plunges the US and the rest of the world into another recession because he somehow thinks that doing so means he's going to end Obamas presidency early (which seems to be his grand master plan). The shitstorm Tsunami that will come down on the Republican party if they allow the government to default will effectively destroy it, because not even the money men want a further recession. In a way part of me would like to see him drive the car off the cliff, just to see the inevitable lynching that would occur as a result, and the freeze frame expression of horror that would cross his face as the noose tightened and he realized just how it was entirely his fault. WTF does he think is going to happen? That people are going to blame Obama for a default? The balls in Boehners court and has been for months, everyone knows it. No ones under any illusions that Boehner is being anything other than obstructive. If the Republicans had any sense they've oust Boehner with a vote of no confidence and get someone whose prepared to negotiate in his place pronto before the shit truly hits the fan.

The problem with America is the first past the post system which inevitably leads to a two party system. Personally I'm not really sure if such a state of affairs can really be called a democracy. That applies to the UK too. In face I'm almost certain the UK doesn't count as we have the Queen.

it would probably have been better had obama not been born black/muslim

Just because Med School is like that now doesn't mean it has always been the case. If we're still talking about it in regards to Ron Paul, that man went through school in like the 60's and was a flight surgeon during Vietnam. It's definitely not the same.

Again with the Ron Paul bullshit? The man wants to eliminate the federal income tax, and still somehow pay off the 14.5 trillion dollar national debt. He ranks alongside Sarah Palin in ignorance and potential for destruction.

True enough, at least in Canada there has been a significant increase in the requirements for candidates over the past 30 years. Not sure about the US though.

well no... as of last wendsday my kid owed the obama administration 43,260$ that to me is a load of shit
