Half-life 2 character may be killed off.

In Episode 2, I really hope I see what actually happens to Breen. In the Dark Fusion reactor, his protective bubble floated safely to the bottom.

What? are you sure? I swear it floated safely. Oh well I'll play that part again since I haven't played it in a while.

But I am sure you remember after Miss Vance comes & greets you after you defeat Dr. Breen from escaping, The bubble is all the way at the bottom & he's still standing? That confuses me.

In EP1 I missed his propaganda, telling every one to join the Combine! D:

Valve didn't expect anyone to look down there, I think.

But I'll tell ya...that bubble was pretty shielded. And he was at the ground floor of the reactor, with an exit on every level...

Who looked down there? Isn't it an instant kill if you do that?

There's like an instant kill script around the pillar, isn't there?

Like ME: Unfunny!
Fixed.

Edit:
Something funny I discovered:
If you jump off the edge just as the portal goes you get teleported back on to the platform for the g-man's ending speach. Evidently, the g-man doesn't want you to see what happened to Breen.

The G-Man speech 'set' is a stripped down duplicate. He didn't want you seeing the holes in side of the citadel.

Actually, after the second flash all you have to do is turn around to see that you aren't at the citadel anymore.

They're sort of concentrating on the Gman...

Barney is going to die. He is going to die and he is going to lament about never buying Gordon that beer.

That was beautiful. Really. Valve should put something like that in Ep.2 however my idea would be to have Barney find a 6-pack of beer in a closet, he sits down and relaxes, talks about Black Mesa and some other stuff when they are taken by surprise that starts with an explosion. Waves of Combine soldiers pour through a hole in a wall and Gordon alongside Barney has to fight them off, and when he is away from him, perhaps in an adjacent room or some place else but not too far away, Gordon goes back to find him lying in a pool of blood, perhaps the lower half of his torso severed from an explosion just far enough not to kill him instantly (How does that happen? I don't know. Eh, Combine technology...) After the whole "farewell/final piece speech" death tangent where Barney says "Well, at least I got that beer I owed ya," a Combine Elite comes out of nowhere and fires an orb, you dodge it, look at Barney and he's already dead. That would be so cinematic and moving...

Now let's see... Who else should we kill off? Oh yes! Dr. Kleiner! Here are my thoughts: he gets shot up and Lamarr, out of his love and attachment to Dr. Kleiner, zombifies him half-way. As a result, he is revived yet retains all his humanity.

Now if anyone's suggesting Alyx will kick the bucket (or the zombie torso as I like to say), you need to consider:

-She apparently contributes to the emotional core of the story just like Barney however I believe he can be sacrificed in accord to the plot to make the story emotionally provocative without risking the paramount things that would end the franchise.

-I'd say Alyx has an equal amount of combat skill as Barney.

-And three, who's gonna repopulate the Earth? You know Alyx and Gordon are going to "hit it off" some time and have "teh hawt butt sechs."

Wow, this post is really off-topic in respect to the current discussion...

I'd say Alyx has an equal amount of combat skill as Barney.
More. She doesn't blindly run out in front of turrets, and she can m?lee zombies 'n antlions.

There we go! Also, I doubt Valve will actually kill her off, and when I say that, I mean gone forever. In the Ep.2 trailer she falls from a bridge and possibly enters a coma due to the fall. I think she even dies but then a Vortigaunt revives her. If they do kill her for good, it would totally end the franchise and it would seem awkward killing her again after her fall. Please read the fourth last to second last paragraph of my previous post to get an idea of what I'm saying. Besides, why would anybody want such an affable and personable character such as Alyx Vance to die? I know Barney is likeable but for some reason, I can just imagine him buying the farm. One of the ways to make the game better is to make it emotionally provocative and by having him die in an epic way I feel would really do the job however the same for Alyx cannot be said, just too risky... Those are my thoughts. Also, I think that it is essential to have the female component intact-to me, that's one of the jobs that Alyx does, the female component.

I just hope no-one dies in an incredibly clich?ed fashon (as basicly every single suggestion for Barney's death has been)

Barney should die... I hate it when he rushes you in "Follow Freeman", when you're supposed to save him from those snipers!

I would say the best way for Barney to die is to actually not be there with him, but to hear about it like over the radio. Like he was organising the defence of an outer istallation from a fierce combine attack and was killed, and have Alyx, Eli or Kliener alongside you to show the emotion of the tradegy, as Gordon cant, only the player. I mean making it all cinematic gives it a more moving approach but sacrifices realism and goes into a cliche.

Alyx I think simply will not die, or if she does will be revived, but will come to harm in way. Killing her is killing the character that conveys the largest amount of emotion and will kill of the player-character bond, which is a vital part of the immersion within the game. Not to mention Valve must have spent yonks developing Alyx's character, and we have yet to see what secrets she hides and yet to see the full extent of her character, would be sheer waste in my opinion. There are many opportunities to explore with a character such as Alyx.

No i dont mean some cheesy love or sex scene, just no...

TBH, I find Alyx to be one of the lesser interesting characters.

If Alyx dies i will never play any Half life game again.. she must live dammit!

I don't know, we've known Barney for soo long, especially if you played Blue Shift, and he kinda has Civil Protection after him, he kind of stole their suit. But we know only a bit about Alyx, and that she has a bold attitude. Alyx came close to dying, (unless she did in EP2's trailor), so she could die, but she is a really strong character, and an icon for women in video games!

and an icon for women in video games!

We can do it!

I somehow dont believe that lol

i aint jokin :D.

its weird, i've somehow become attached to Alyx, she is a great character (with exellent vo).

I can honestly say that if she does die i will be heart broken;(

I think its best if Eli or Barney dies that will have great impact on the story, especially with Eli.

You will do if you have just played through it, the game has that sort of affect on males lol, but it will pass. To not continue playing the games just because is killed off would be a failure on many levels.

Also, if you catch a load point (which pauses the game) and catch Alyx making a really weird face (As I have soo often), She won't seem all that attracting anymore...

lol yeah I have done that a couple of times, i love when you are watching a dvd and someone else in the room pauses it and the character is pulling a really dodgey face

lol yea its funny, i think everyone should take a screenshot of when that occurs and post it on here, see who gets the most dodgy face expression :D

heh, I would do it, ALL the time, but I play(ed) the X-Box version, which can't take screenshots :(
