Just watched Pandorum. It might not be the most innovative movie and has some irritating parts, but it's really good overall. I've enjoyed it much much more than avatar, if you need comparisons. And some consider this a B-movie, heh...people are funny :)

Seems sci-fi horror is the only thing that gives me an erection these days. Any recommendations?

And god, it made me want to play SS2 all over again...this is the second time i got this desire this past week (maybe it's a sign). Oh why did Bioshock have to be such a boring excuse for a horror game ;(

edit: No actually the story of Pandorum is really good, maybe the plot in later stages ruins it a bit.

Alien. It actually has pacing!

I don't believe there is one sci-fi nerd out there that hasn't seen that quadrilogy.

I was hoping for less known horror movies, because i've probably seen all popular ones.

edit: yes event horizon was good, probably like 10 years since i've last seen that movie, might re-watch someday soon.

Hey you didn't mention what you'd seen. I'm just being a prat and pointing it out jeez.

It's not like it invented the genre or anything.

The Thing boi.

Well you have a point so:

-Alien (whole bunch)
-Event horizon
-The thing
-Most of the "the dead" series
-Screamers
-Pitch black
-Doom (IMO a good movie...considering i've watched it 3 times, lol. what can i say, i like the premise)
-28 days/weeks
-AVP
-Cube (all of them)
-Deep blue sea
-Ghost of mars
-Species (first part)
-Predator (not really horror)

I can't remember more, but some remain.

edit: -Tremors

OH lol

looks watchable, but why can't they just keep it simple...way to much cheap action.

That's not horror.
Are you kidding? It follows the slasher structure to a T

eeeeeeeeeerminator.

:l

It's broody and gross and dark. It blends elements from film noire, sure, but compare it to T2. T1 was all about atmosphere and survival (from an unkillable maniac--sound familiar?); T2 had a bit of all that, but it was more about CARTOON CHARACTER HEROIC SACRIFICE DERP.

Plus, T1 had a pessimistic, 'we're all ****ed' ending, just like every slasher.

I havent seen Virus since I was about 10, don't remember if it was good or not (probably alright), but the prop design was very nice.

1408
The Descent
They Live
Cabin Fever

?

1408-not really sci fi, generally paranormal horror doesn't scare me
the descent-looks really nice
they live-awesome movie
cabin fever-the trailer didn't really look anything special

edit: i find it really strange why Pandorum is so underrated, compared to the competition out there it easily stands it's own ground. I really suggest it if you haven't seen it already...the first half is particularly good.

Oddly I've been on a sci-fi horror binge lately as well. Frankly, theres not many good horror movies.

-Leviathan is alright, but suffers heavily because of its age.
-Dark Floors was moderately entertaining, and pretty good for a B movie. Or at least, I hope it was a B movie.

-The Burrowers is pretty good. It had a pretty good budget, and had a decent plot. Creature design was pretty good too.

-The Last Winter is alright. Acting is pretty B grade, but the creature is awesome I think. Especially since they show it rarely and that makes it even more scary.

-Skeleton Crew is an absolutely awful, terrible, waste of space. Even for a B movie I hated it. Unless you're looking for a movie to mock with a friend, just pass this one by if you see it.

-The Cell was weird. Still don't know what to think of it, but its definitely a bit trippy.

-Drag Me To Hell, a sub par movie, with more jumpy bits than real horror, and the acting is pretty shit at some points, while fine in others. The girl in it is super hot though, so I watched the whole thing.

-Shiver (NOT "THE SHIVERS") was good. Not really sci-fi though.

-30 Days of Night, a vampire movie, not really horror but its a decent watch. Didn't like it at all the first time i watched it, but i liked it better when i watched it yesterday.

-The Thaw- Not really sci fi either, but its decent. Has a very prominent "save the earf!" message though, and its a pretty stupid way of delivering the message.

Shivers (btw) is a Cronenberg film about a parasite that makes people into sex maniacs.

Leviathan looks good, looks like poor man abyss, cant believe I've never heard of it.

The last winter looks good also, Ron Pealman is win in my books.

Also this isn't much of a horror but Its a decent sci-fi

Thirteenth Floor

also there a good movie I remember seeing once where children are taken by monsters, but they can only do it in the dark. and there still after children in their 20's. I don't know, I only saw it once, wanted to watch it all.

Dark City? More of a sci-fi thriller than horror though.

Have you seen Jocob's Ladder? It's not sci-fi but ticks the right boxes. Trippy, weird, disturbing - excellent movie.

You say you've seen the original The Fly and didn't care for it, but you should still see Cronenberg's version. It retains the same basic concept, but executes it very differently. I haven't seen it in years, but I imagine the makeup and effects are still very unsettling.

Hell, almost anything from Cronenberg is worth a watch, although I wouldn't consider many of them sci-fi necessarily. Like Videodrome, for instance. I'm not sure it's "scary" really, but it's really ****ing weird.

Is the one with Jeff Goldblum the remake or original? Thats the only one ive seen, and its really good.

That's the remake. The old-school classic is the one with Vincent Price and differs greatly in the way they handle the "Fly" creature...

Cronenberg is also apparently planning on another remake. I don't know how exactly that works, but I will look forward to it nonetheless!

I havent seen Virus since I was about 10, don't remember if it was good or not (probably alright), but the prop design was very nice.

I re-watched Virus a few months back... the prop design is really the only thing going for it. That, and it does have a bit more gore than I remembered. But over all its nothing special.

Dark Floors..WHAT A LOAD OF CROCKSHIT!

I'm 40 minutes in and i've already facepalmed once, rolled my eyes twice.
How can you spend 4 million on it and sleep at night!!! Every minute is like torture.

edit: pain, PAIN! Please avoid this movie if you care about yourself.

edit#2: Why the **** didn't they just give me the 4 million so i can spend it on drugs and hookers with aids rather than make this 1:21 torture device. This movie is so bad, what makes it even worse is that it pretends to be on par.
I highly recommend it to any masochist.

Sunshine hasn't been mentioned yet? What the hell guys! I mean yeah, it's not really a horror movie, but damn it was awesome.

Sunshine was IMO very disappointing. But compared to Dark Floor it is gold.

Did i say how bad Dark Floor is? Oh yeah, seems i did. It's really, really bad. It's worse than you can imagine.

So bad i just have to repeat it over and over to make the bad taste in my mouth disappear. Like rinsing your mouth with water after you sucked a tranny's dick.

Hahaha. Indeed. After watching it, I was a bit shamed I wasted time on it.

From other movies Krynn mentioned, The Cell is pretty good, and Drag me to Hell, too, in a right mind set, although I couldn't be bothered to

I watched both Sunshine and Moon yesterday. Sunshine was pretty dissapointing, and had a lot of annoying things in it. Although Moon was slightly better, it wasn't very suprising, and from a scifi point didn't strike me as very original.

I also watched Pandorum just few minutes ago. The first 15 minutes you keep hoping that it wont prove to be just something like aliens or mutants of whatever. Then the rest of the movie you just keep cursing at how it was just that. And it happened in a second, too. A sudden loud noise and you go "Aaaaagh, this movie sucks."

I am not sure why people like Elevent Horizon, but personally when I saw it the first time a couple of years ago I was very disappointed.

As for scifi horror & monster movies go, one that comes to my mind is the Feast.

Ha... well, I did mean the one where Sam Neil runs around naked and blind in the end.
