Another GT5 picture, notice the amazing alpha quality!

The 800 or so "standard" cars are basically pulled right from GT4, so you get awful textures like that.

But, the premium cars look lovely

Special%20Stage%20Route%207.jpg

What? So the majority of the cars in the game looks crap up close?

Did a bit of research, appears to be true. Didn't know this!

Still 200, fully modelled cars is still a lot. Would take forever to get that quality with over 1000 cars. It's a bit tight they advertise it that all the cars will be sexy though! And you would have thought they would have put some higher res textures on them to help.

Still, what happens in my screen, with the aliasing etc, is not the textures, but rather the games crappy alpha effects(I.e. what the game uses for blur, rain, fog, and so forth.)

This is a good walkthrough of GT5's technological side.

Ren, I don't really think 200 fully modelled cars is that much given the game has been in development six years.

Forza 3 for example has 450 fully modelled cars complete with cockpits and high-poly models/high-res textures.

Mr. Smartypants trying so hard to look smartypants. "Alphas" in game engines refer to an alpha channel in the textures that allow for transparency or other maps, like specular maps. Generally when people think "alpha" they think transparency, like for glass, or sprites. Blur, fog, and so forth are post-process effects that usually have nothing to do with "alpha" in modern game engines. The rain is probably handled by sprites, so that would indeed be using an alpha channel. The car you posted above has shitty resolution textures, which affects the alpha channel (being embedded in the texture), but its incorrect to say the car looks like crap because of the "shitty alpha." It looks like crap because of its shitty texture(s).

Anyways, those cars look like shit, and I'd be embarrassed to have included them in a game I worked on. They could easily have taken a few hours to remake them in decent resolution. Were they sitting on their thumbs for five of the six years or something?

Agreed. Those low-res textures could be from a PS1. Embarrassing, to say the least. Six years in the making? I can't believe it.

I bet somebody had fun exporting and importing over 800 cars from old GT games!

I forgot it had been in development for so long, I guess they could have done more "premium" cars then. To be honest I don't think they should have included these crappy cars. Especially in a current gen game where people expect photo-realism. Instead they get some blurry jaggedness.

Ren, I agree, they should have gone for quality over quantity.

But then again, that's not really what the Japanese gaming industry is into.

The first Spiderman I have played since the original Spiderman: The Movie that's a decent port.

I take it the game is worth buying?

Might pick it up for the 360 then.

Also, I uploaded a bunch of screens via the TinyPic.com Uploader application someone in here linked me, but didn't seem to get any links to the pictures so that I could show them in this thread?:(

I'm enjoying it, though it isn't open world in the slightest compared to the other games.

Yep, it runs really well on the my missus's machine which I'm using since my GTX280 fried and it's so far the only game I can get to run higher than 30 fps. It's a constant 60fps.

This DLC upsets me. On one had it's filled with timed missions with bonus points etc like Jimmys Vendetta but on the other hand those missions play so well and would be so much better made into proper cinematic missions ala Mafia 2. Also, the few story missions you do such as the one above are really enjoyable and on par with the cinematic ones in Mafia 2, featuring Tony Balls
the guy you hit the meat factory with
and some of the other main Mafia 2 cast while completely removing the timer and stupid bonus points system.

As it is it's enjoyable for people who want more story but it's a seriously missed opportunity to get some trust back from the community after their game cutting greed.

Been playing some more Oblivion lately. Finished Shivering Isles which was interesting and fun.

I gave my char a facelift so she actually looks nice this time.

She's a little angry here. She doesn't mess around!

I'll be taking more scenery and fighting screens for the next round.

Holy shit, that character model blows everything that's in Oblivion out of the water.
Does it come in a pack that adds male models too? Or do you know of any good male models?

I've been seriously considering reinstalling Oblivion as of late.

I use the HGEC underwear models(female only). I haven't used any male body replacers. Mostly because they don't have many great armor sets/clothing that looks sweet which makes me not play them.

I hear that Roberts Male body replacer is the one to get though. I might try it out.

The High Imperial race is what I changed her to. She was previously a Breton. It is an amazing race pack.

I also highly recommend the "All Natural" plugin. Blows Natural Environments away in a hurricane.(I actually use both, but only the parts of natural environments that don't cover the weather system of AN)

Awesome race lineup

Oh man I LOL'd, imagining all the characters running around naked. Then I continued reading and I was dissapoint.

How come in a game like NFS: HP you can really trash licensed cars yet with GT(and Forza, dunno what the dmg is like) the manufacturers aren't happy with it.

First guess: more cars to license. 1000 is probably not insignificant (or even 200, were they to just license the premium ones).

Second guess: GT and Forza are more simulation, NFS:HP is purely arcade. In a sense, seeing a car getting trashed in a simulator would have more of a negative impact on the automotive companies then it would in a game where there is no real testing/number crunching details to making the cars feel very life-like.

Firefox won't work on this network due to technical shite and proxies.

I think because they aren't really trashed. From what I've seen the damage is all superficial, especially considering the speeds.

This is what supercars really look like when they crash at speed:

There is no shortage of photos like this.

I won't be happy until the damage in video games looks like that, if we have to mod the game to do it.

Side note: something that just occurred to me, any car capable of 140 MPH + should come with a roll cage.

Took a bunch of photos before and after the release. I've never seen so many idiots stand around when I'm trying to yell at them to go to Dal and get their flying license there instead!
