Would films like 12 Monkeys and Brazil count? I'd root more for Brazil, but yeah.

Also; Aliens, original Star Wars and errr... I dunno.

awesome choice - I ****ing love that movie - the sheer volume of beautiful colour is awe inspiring. It's more like an art canvas than a film

EDIT: Holy hell, you actually like the fil The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy? you should read the book, then you would find out how truly rubbish the book is compared to the film. Zaphod Beeblebrocks's head's were not meant to be under each other, they were side by side, so they could argue.

Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Someone that actually like that film? IMO it discredits the books, radio play and TV show. If I saw that film and was then asked to read the book it was based/TV show/radio programme it was based on I wouldn't give it a single chance.

I loved all the Hitchhikers stuff. I thought the film was good fun.

1. Alien and Aliens
2. Predator 1 (the rest are shit)
3. The Matrix
4. Dark City
5. Terminator 2

Best of the rest, in no order: 12 Monkeys, Children of Men, Equilibrium, A.I., Independence Day, Blade Runner, Starship Troopers, The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, Bicentennial Man and many others...

I personally have never read the book but i thought the movie was hilarious:"I'm soo depressed, you gotta ask yourself what's the point"

I'm not much of a sci-fi fan but I liked Gataca and the Matrix.

1 - CODE 46
2 - Ghost in the Shell (+ sequel)
3 - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
4 - Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978 version)
5 - The Fly (1986 version)
6 - Alien (+ sequel)
7 - Solaris (2002 version)
8 - The Last Man on Earth
9 - Logan's Run
10 - The Man Who Fell To Earth

I tried to avoid cliches like The Terminator, Blade Runner, The Matrix, 2001 and so on for the most part.
Code 46 is really really good.

Honourable mention to Akira, Brazil, The Osterman Weekend, The Day the Earth Stood Still, 28 Days Later, Wizards, Night of the Living Dead, Fifth Element and Videodrome.

I've got four there, plus three that are remakes of pre-1968 films. But it's pretty much fact that the bulk of the best sci-fi started coming out in the mid to late seventies.

1 - CODE 46

I did a search on that flick, it seems interesting enough. I'll have to check it out, especially since I've recently taken a liking to British sci-fi productions after seeing "28 days later" and "Children of men"

I actually read the entire series well before I watched the film, and while I didn't think it was as faithful as it could have been, I thought it was an incredibly good part of the franchise.

1. Aliens
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. The Terminator
4. Blade Runner
5. The Matrix

Yeah, yeah, count the cliches.

It so hard to nail down what's Sci-Fi sometimes. Is 28 Days Later? Is Children of Men? How about A Scanner Darkly? They all have sci-fi elements, but are they actually science fiction movies?

For HHGTTG the book was all about the dialogue and I think the movie lost a lot of that in the acting.

Yes.
