Halflife2.net Minecraft Server Discussion

Could you also do something about people cloning? ie. ban

I've given the go-ahead to move the server to Chicago. This shouldn't take very long, but note that the IP address and port will be changing. I'll provide more information when I get it.

Okay, scratch that. The current server uses SSDs, which is why the lag problem has all but disappeared. They don't currently have any in the Chicago location, so I'm going to wait until they install them in the new year before moving the server.

For some reason, my tree farm spontaneously combusted. No clue how it happened, there's no open flames anywhere inside of the room, but everything just caught on fire. Think it's lag related?

Beta is released:

* Working server-side inventory! Finally! (And as a result of that, a whole pile of bugs and issues got fixed)
* Made SMP servers save chunks way less often in most cases. Chunks don’t resave if they got saved in the last 30 seconds
* Moving too far away from a container, or having it blow up, closes the inventory screen
* Fixed /kill
* Introduced leaf decay again. It acts differently from before
* You can now throw eggs
* On a whim, added super exclusive clan cloaks for Mojang Employees
* .. and something else, which is even more rare

Server will be updated within the next 24 hours.

Nice! But it seems to me like the beta kills performance. It feels very sluggish to me which never happened with alpha.

Yeah, I was on single player a bit ago to finally check out the nether, and it was like being on a crowded server with a bunch of lag. There's nothing quite like watching leaves burn one second and being on fire the next because you went to put out a fire on a tree you wanted to save.

Can I be added to the whitelist? Name's the same: Unfocused.

Also, it seems to me that the beta performs way worse on my PC. Alpha was OK, now it's low framerate and skips. Then again, it's Java, maybe if I won't have Firefox with a few tabs opened it will work better (playing through the exe of course, but still, it seems like Firefox has a memory leak and can devour a lot of memory eventually).

EDIT: Updated Java and it runs playable now; still a bit worse though. Also, I'm not 100% sure, but I thought it didn't use 600MB of memory before.

I can't add anyone to the whitelist until the server is back.

We're waiting on the hey0 mod, which allows all the admin stuff to work. Word from the developers is:

"it's nearly done, we just have to update some hooks which is proving a little tricky"

So very soon. However, there'll be another delay after Notch updates Minecraft with the next round of bugfixes.

I love how everything is blown to shit but the torches are still fine.

Does anyone know of a working server with unlimited TNT? There was one (madness.bwana.tv) but it's not working.

Matter of fact, I was trying to find ANY server to connect to, but I failed. A lot of outdated ones.

Does there happen to be an idea of when the server will be back? I keep getting server outdated errors.

Still waiting on the updated hmod so that the plugins will work.
This ought to be the last time that an update will break things, though, if Notch sticks with the release plan he recently touted on his blog.

And, as if by magic - server is up and running.

Remember - they mostly come at night. Mostly.

Well then.

I'm just going to go skulk into a corner for a while.

I can't seem to kill creepers effectively. I hit them and pull back but they still explode on me. The Beta lag might be to blame (its not bad but enough to mess up my timing)

I have a confession to make.

I was in my house and was mining downwards at an angle when I eventually came out in a long corridor with some coal on the floor and some gold ore on the walls. "Strange" I thought, I was in desperate need of some coal at that point though, so I began mining it out. Then I decided to explore and wandered further on down the corridor when I finally discovered that it was in fact part of the subway

I then ran back to the hole I made in the floor, filled it up with what stones I ad on me. Then went back to the way I came in and filled that in as well.

So in short, sorry for stealing the coal, I didn't know :(

Please don't ban me..

I'm not an admin but I think you are ok. Most of the subway passes under unclaimed land and any ore under your area is yours by right. The only way I can see you getting into trouble was if you destroyed the tracks, flooded the tunnels, or damaged the subway in general. The very fact that you fixed the holes you made and told us about it just shows that you care about the work of others and are an honest player.

Frankly... we could all take a page from your book.

I've probably dug into that subway on accident 10+ times. I really need to make a compass or something.

When are we going to get another map render? I'ts been a while and I'd like to see how far people have explored.
