Would this ever happen though? I mean sure I'd be iffy about letting my kids (god forbid I have kids) hang out with such a person. However in all likelihood I'd never know whether or not such a person liked the stuff.

Pedophilia is a lot like a sexual orientation judging from what I have read on the subject. Its not really a choice that you make, and not something you can control your thoughts about. It just is what it is. But, just like any sexual orientation, you can control your urges because you're still a human being who can make ethical choices, and who naturally wants to cause no harm to an innocent person. Child molesters are to pedophiles as rapists are to hetero/homosexuals. Being gay or straight isnt immoral, being a gay/straight rapist is. Saying pedophilia is sick and wrong is very, very similar to saying homosexuality is wrong. I don't see a case for either statement, unless the subject at hand is violating another person's well being.

I think we're prolly the future of all other information-ridden nations. 38 million people in this country of 50 million use the internet on a daily basis, and the entire city of Seoul, the capital (population 14 million) has a citywide wireless internet connection, and problems are going to rise from this. Most likely, other nations, as their internet infrastructure develops, will follow our example. We, on the other hand, will go through a trial and error process that is going to be one step furthur than other nations.














Sooner or later, I'm expecting my country to come up with Judge Dredd/Warhammer 40k Adeptus Arbites style rule of law.

Yeah, well, it's putting offline laws to cyberspace. You can sue someone for libel in real life, why can't you do it online? Porn has always been illegal, off-line or online, so that's understandable (personally, I think it's because of Japan; we want to be the 'anti-Japan' :p).

False information with malicious intent.... well that goes under the vast powers of the current 'Distruption of administration/functions laws'. They try to prevent people from causing harm to others, and things on the internet spread fast.

Google thought this was bad for buisiness, so they locked out Koreans from youtube as a form of protest against the laws, but those laws have seriously become a sort of defence against the entire internet becoming 4chan.

Edit: Krynn's post is really good I think. I have actually been thinking about making that same comparison but was sort of afraid of people not agreeing with it. I think it's a fair comparison to make. How can you say someone is bad for indulging in an interest they did not CHOOSE to have, in a completely harmless manner?

I can understand child pornography being illegal, and it should be. A real child was actually abused or taken advantage of in order to produce it. Anything else that doesnt involve a real child should not be illegal. Thoughts and harmless artworks should never be against the law. Whether you think they're immoral, perverted, or whatever else doesnt really matter, because that is all subjective. The only way to look at it objectively is to determine whether the act of viewing or producing the work is harmful.

Now of course, someone might claim that viewing such content might make someone more inclined to harm a child, but we have seen many instances in various parts of life where a minor indulgence actually will stave off major ones. Having some freedoms doesnt mean there will be total anarchy, but if you oppress people then theres a much higher chance of revolt.

Also, didnt some judge in russia or something declare that drawn characters are legally real humans? Major WTF at that.
