Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been hit in the face and knocked to the ground after a political rally in Milan.

Pictures showed Mr Berlusconi, 73, with blood around his mouth and on his face. Reports suggested he had either been punched or hit with an object.

Mr Berlusconi was taken to hospital. A first medical report said two teeth were damaged, with one broken.

asshole got what he deserved.

Poor guy , i feel sorry for him :(
He made me laugh with his outrageous statements , like that one time when he said that Obama was ... eh ? tanned ? Or the time when he said that everybody loves him. That was great.

He wasn't knocked out, change the thread title.

He wasn't knocked out, But his nose and two teeth are broken. Also it seems the attacker has a history of mental illness. Which might rule out a planned political attack. We have to see whether this attack will cause his popularity to rise.

someone was saying elsewhere, i can't remember but they said the guy swung and hit him with some sort of small rock or chuck of something hard. i still think he deserves it, this man is a billionaire and is very evil aka the Italian version of Bush

I am italian, so I have to bear Berlusconi's silliness every day. It's not an easy task.
I don't accept violence in any form, but I have to admit... yes, it was overdue. He called for it.
By the way, we finally learned he is not God-like as he claims: he bleeds, and his blood is red.

That wasn't his blood he was bleeding.

Oh man, I laughed out loud when I first saw a picture of his bleeding, frightened face. I don't condone violence in any way, but there are exceptions I guess.

yeah hes going to be staying in the hospital another 30 some hours because he broke 2 teeth and his nose

****ing wuss

It's a shame the object wasn't pointier and sharper, like, you know.. a knife.

I kind of don't see whats wrong with mr. Italy.

If he didn't get attacked yesterday then you'd probably want to throw a statue at him too. he really is a giant doo doo head

@Solaris. Mr. Berlusconi is a media mogul and using that influence he has carved out a nice political career for himself. He has been accused of corruption and has wriggled out of the charges. A lot of politicians usually produce a gaffe or two once in a while. But Mr. Berlusconi has consistently produced retarded comments.

You can be sure Berlusconi's party, using their vast media influence is going to twist this to their advantage. I hope not, but that's wishful thinking.

^ Plus he used tax money to send the government jet to pick up underage prostitutes and drop them off at his palace where he had sex with them.

Berlusconi is the type of man that makes you ask, "He's a head of state? Seriously? No, really?"

Actually, Berlusconi is so strong because italian opposition parties are weak and fragmented.

Well I still think he is a petulant 14 year old trapped in a 73 year old man's body.

Staged by the govt. to garner sympathy for perhaps the Italy's least popular PM ever?

On a more srs note, sucks. Nobody deserves to have unprovoked violence enacted on them.

Berlusconi is the least popular PM in foreign countries. Unfortunately, in Italy he is widely supported. As I said before, opposition parties are fragmented between democrats, catholics, neo-communists, socialists and so on. They are unable to coalesce.

Interesting. So are there any actual data/polls on his approval rating (or something similar)? I guess I'd just assumed he was disliked because of the few Italian friends I have back home and at school hate his guts.

The normal avarage everyday citizen here hates him though, for the past 6 years that i have lived here i have yet to meet one Berlusconi supporter. When you meet new people, they dont even have to ask you, they just assume you hate Berlusconi, its almost as if its common knowledge, 1+1=2. But this is mostly speaking for the youth. I guess most of the old people like him. They are old anyway, they will die soon.

You know, when people get old and age, they turn from democratic idealists to selfish, greedy men like Mr. Berlusconi :(
