This question's mainly for those in the UK. Was wondering what official ID cards are out there for students. While our campus card at Durham uni lets us into most bars in durham, it let me down when i went the manchester to visit friends as it has no date of birth on it. I can use my passport if necessary but it's annoying to carry around and a card would be much more suitable. I also have no drivers licence.

Basically looking for something that:

has a photo
has date of birth
isn't too 3rd party that it will get rejected by some bars/clubs/etc

I had a browse of the NUS site and all they seemed to have was one with a photo and no DoB, or one with a DoB and no photo :/

Here in the states at least... we usually get state ID cards. I've had mine since I was 17. They have photos, date of birth, and is official government wise.

You get them at the department of motor vehicles here.

You don't have anything similiar there?

If you're willing to fork over the £38, you could just get your provisional license which lasts a year, has a photo and a DoB on.

Wow... That's expensive! The license I got, although granted is not a drivers license(the same though... I just didn't do the driver license part when I got mine), just cost me 10-15 american dollars, can't remember which. And i've been using it legally for years.

It still says under 21 on it. Same one I used to get into the casino on my 21st birthday and after.

Well, the provisional is £38 but then the proper license itself is free (wierd, eh).

Strictly speaking, a full UK license costs £48. (To sit and assume a pass of the practical test).

And provisionals are valid for eight years.

Google "prove it" cards (or something along those lines). These are cards that are accepted as I.D. most places.

Most places don't except anything but Drivers / Provisional / Passport anyway. Proof of Age cards given out by councils are rarely excepted, even in the counties they originate from. I don't drive either, so I just put up with carrying my passport around. It's really not all that big.

It would be a terrible thing to lose though.

the prove-it thing looks really decent, cheers for that.

lawl at all the fake ID websites that'll make you a fake prove it ID card.

No worries. :)

You see them advertised in a lot of off-licenses/wine shops etc. Hopefully that'll do the job. Although you can never be too sure about starting to drive - the provisional may be more of an investment.

But only as terrible as the bank-card, £20 the other shite in your wallet and your house keys. And chances are you WON'T lose them. Prove it Cards cost money to replace too, and I like I've said, I don't believe for a second that more than 10% of places actually accept them. The sheer number of opportunities to get fakes is reason enough to doubt them (I certainly know of no-one who uses such a Card).

Well does anyone here use one/know someone that does and has had them rejected, etc before?

The site seems to suggest that the Pass hologram is a government approved thing and so should be accepted as much as the drivers lisence or passport. Hard to tell without going round to as many bars as possible and asking "what do you accept?"

oh and cormeh, learning to drive in durham doesn't exactly appeal to me, the place is terrible for cars :p

Can't you just use your gay card?

Sorry... ahem... Don't students get free metro passes these days, and dont they have your photo and details on?

NUS cards aren't accepted as ID.

Passport or drivers license only mate. That's what you'll hear.

I need a fake ID. Not for buying booze or something stupid like that, but just for getting into concerts. THREE TIMES NOW I've missed my dear friend's band playing because the age limit was 18+.

God-damn clubs :/

You'd be suprised how easy they are to produce. All you need is a printer and a laminater. The trick is to get a wallet that has a transparent card holder for your ID - nobody that checks for ID ever takes the card out of that pouch.

Just wait until the government issues mandatory ID cards.
