8.8 earthquake hits japan, followed by tsunamis

The damage looks terrible, the tsunami waters have swept away a lot.

Ugh. Terrible. How far out do they estimate the tsunamis will reach/

Australia and New Zealand are a couple of countries at risk.

God damnit Earth, give us a ****ing break already. I have a friend who just recently moved to Japan for a teaching opportunity, hope hes alright.

Shit man and I was about to go to bed... all this Earthquake stuff is scary. Is anyone seeing the tsunamis? That's even more frightening... there was a ****ing FIRE FLOATING ON THE TSUNAMI. I hope it isn't as bad as it looks for everyone...

God, those people in those homes and in the cars as the water is rushing to them don't stand a chance. They're going to be drowned and ground to smithereens :(

I can see some areas where people are running away from it, moving so slow compared to the approaching wave of water rushing over the farmland.

EDIT: ****... watching those cars and trucks driving perpendicular to the wave and then being swept away... that's just so painful to watch, knowing there's going to be a ton of lives extinguished. Anybody in those vehicles is going to be lucky to survive.

:(

Earthquakes aren't that much of a shock. The combination of the two is the real disaster.

Thank goodness Kojima made it.

I don't see him saying that on his twitter. I only see him talking about stupidly pointless stuff just a mere hour ago.

GL Japan, as much as I hate your anime and what not, without you we Wouldn't even have our PS1s.

It could be fake. I grabbed it from /v/ just in case. Is there a number of casualties yet?

Doubt there's going to be any solid number for a long time. Sooo much debris... going to be so many bodies just trapped in buried cars and beneath feet of debris and earth.

If I wasn't already uneasy about living so close to pacific waters...

Oh my, just saw some shocking footage of the tsunami rushing across farmland... sincere hopes for the people of Japan. :(

3 so far, but given a lot of houses and cars have been swept away by the Tsunamis, a Refinery burning out of control, fire, liquifaction, falling of masonry and glass, I would imagine the death toll could rise, along with missing persons

Good thing the nuclear plant is safely contained

In the space of a month there has been a devastating quake in New Zealand, a quake the other day in China that killed 22 people and a quake in Chilli, now this quake in Japan. Not to mention the boxing day tsunami quake and the Haiti quake in the past few years. It's crazy.

Is the farmland tsunami footage on yo tube yet? Tragic but **** thats amazing to look at.

motehr is earth is fighting back
Was getting sick of all that tentacle porn in japan.

Can someone confirm the Tsunami warning has extended to the West Coast of US

Well, Japan has had extensive drills and facilities to deal with this kind of contingency, so let's just hope for the best. I know, it's Japan, but human lives are still human lives.

A tsunami warning has been expanded to include the entire western U.S. coast.

The Tsunami Warning Center says the warning is in effect for California, Oregon, Washington and southern Alaska.

Warnings were issued for Hawaii and other parts of the Pacific following a tsunami early Friday after a massive earthquake struck in Japan.

Tsunami warnings are issued due to the imminent threat of a tsunami.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

26+ dead 8 minutes ago. Numbers are rising rapidly.

Holy sh*t, a f*cking MAELSTROM.

EDIT: 32+

I've read that the town of Kurihara, population 77,000, has been completely wiped out (can't source this, though). 300 homes destroyed in Iwate. Don't try to keep up with the casualty numbers given at this stage.

Give us a break. :(

Christ, I'm practically living on a fault line...

Man it looks horrible...

I hope everyone within range of the tsunami is ok.

Ridiculously high magnitude, Japan is well prepared being on a triple boundary but big ones like this with 10m high tsunamis are near impossible to control. As Laiv said, the current death toll means nothing...I fear it's going to be many times larger.

This is my biggest fear of ever going to Japan. Looks ****ing horrible.

Something about this year guys...i'm normally a logical/scientific person but is it just me or as soon as 2011 hit, shit just started to go downhill...

I mean, it started with all those fish/crabs/birds dying randomly on new years eve/days after..weather over here is just absolutely retarded(not really a reason, pretty sure it's la-nina that's causing it if i'm not mistaken) but a lot of my friends/family have been pretty miserable for the last few months..

I dunno maybe it's just me haha

But stay strong Japan..

It all started around 2 years before the 21st of December 2012... perhaps this is the build-up. I feel so bad for the people affected though :(.

I don't actually believe in the 2012 thing
