Guitar Hero World Tour - 8/10. Not as groundbreaking as 3, but has the greatest song ever on it.

Also been playing this for the first time over the last few days. Joined the PS3 camp over the weekend (alongside 360 and PC) and had been looking forward to giving this a go, as i love my racing games.

Early signs are very good imo. The car physics seem solid, with each car having similar behaviour to their real life counterparts (from what i have read, i can't claim to have driven all of these vehicles xD). Not quite up there with rFactor and LFS, but pretty satisfying.

Good audio giving a good idea of grip levels and when you are reaching the limit, and with a wheel there is good feedback on weight transfer and grip.

The game looks great (which is of secondary importance to how the cars drive) and the car cockpits are modeled beautifully, which helps add to the realism. The cars themselves look fantastic. Track wise, some seem better/more real than others. All the time keeping a nice fluid frame rate, bar the very occasional slowdown (at seemingly completely random times !)

Also, love the main menu screen, great little touches such as weather information at real life locations, and the beautiful animated backdrop.

8.5/10

Bring on the full game (eventually) !

What's your PSN? Lets do some online races.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin - 8/10

****ing awesome combat, scares aren't as well done though if you can really call them scares. Gets a bit stale in parts but it usually picks up the pace quickly.

Afro Samurai - 8/10

After completing it and spending some time fooling around I've learned to better appreciate the game. It strays away from the source material quite a bit in that it doesn't really follow the storyline entirely, but it's still pretty solid. Combat is fast and fun and the graphics are gorgeous. Samuel L. Jackson and Ron perlman did an outstanding job voicing Afro, Ninja-Ninja and Justice.

Dead Space - 10/10

Definitely one of the best horror games I have played. Games really don't scare me easily but this one certainly had its moments. Great, original enemies, very challenging and excellent intense combat. The story progresses really well too, I love finding audio files and text files to a get a more chilling insight into what happened. Great game.

Condemned: Criminal Origins
- 4/10

FAR too slow, combat gets boring very quickly, boring environments that aren't even scary because its so slow. None of it makes sense.

Rome: Total War - 9/10

Excellent game, although the AI is definitely an issue, although it isn't as bad on the very hard difficulty, but the only problem with that is that your troops seem to become weaker and theirs become stronger which makes no sense.

Oblivion - 9/10

I really am enjoying this game, I love the combat and being a vampire is awesome. I would say my only gripes is that a bit more selection of weapons and armor would be cool, also a bit more variety of locations and a bigger map really. And the Oblivion gates are a just a pain in the arse.

Painkiller 9/10

It's Doom all over again, this time with physics and nice graphics. What more can i say....

I beat following games this month:

Quake IV (8/10)

Great sequel (beginning is bit boring), possibly Raven Software's best game to date.

I would agree with this statement up until Raven best game, it's their second best game, after Elite Force :)

Red Dead Revolver Jack Swift/10

Hyping up for Redemption, yes I know it's still a few months away.

Need For Speed Most Wanted - 9.1/10
Still one of my favourite games ever.

Nibwoddle WTF?
It's a rank out of ten not some score you coppied from the NFS website.

My PSN: ess_nce (somebody always has variations of my name xD)

How are you finding it so far ? Other than fun !

I have to say that the "beat target time for xxxx track inside 10 minutes" challenges are faintly ridiculous, especially as they seem to rely on you drafting for a significant period of the lap, whilst also pulling the perfect lap out of the bag ! Which means the other cars on track have to line themselves up nicely for you in order to make it a possibility ! I managed to get gold on the cappuccino high speed ring time trial, not sure i can be bothered for the others though !

Colin McRae's DiRT - 8/10

Best PC racing fun I've had in quite a while.

F.E.A.R. 2 - 8.5/10

More fun than I thought it would be.

Garry's Mod - 7.5, it was good. Long ago, not much anymore.

L4D - 8/10, good singleplayer but needs more than 2 multiplayer maps (DLC coming sooon)
Fallout 3 - 10/10, for real its one of the best RPG's and the graphics blew me away.

Jade Empire: 68%

I was looking for something similar to KOTOR and this Bioware game crossed my sights, all in all it hasn't been a horrible experience and the high points have been the story and graphics but my poor role-playing, she has been nerfed. First I have to start with the 3 stats, 3 f'in stats... That right there is worth the title of 3rd person action/adventure.

Bioware did their best to make this seem like a RPG experience, good story that draws you in, well at least eventually. Good dialogue, although it suffers the same problems as KOTOR as in you have three choices (hint pick the first one) two are usually goody, goody responses which the character you are talking to responds with the same phrase even if it doesn't make no bloody sense with what you said. You have the 3rd asshole response if you want to be the evil guy. Plus 3 special responses based on your expressive traits which don't seem to really matter all too much from what I have played. The aforementioned traits and stats can be altered with your amulet and gems but once again nothing much changes in the game despite the choices that I have seen. You have various fighting styles of which you can pump up with points upon leveling up but they seem also not to really change much. NPC's are also present but once again, they don't seem to matter much. Mini-games are present but they do not make a RPG.

Combat is pure action, despite Bioware putting in a pause to get that RTwP label in there. The pause doesn't matter unless you want a snack. The combat is easy to pick up and not hard at all in the normal and easy difficulties. Styles have little change to the game but to be fair that would be true in most RPG's, just pump it up and kill mofo's. At least with the Infinity Engine games would reward you with amazing magic animations for choosing magic and a thief could go around undetected.

In the end this really isn't a RPG, Zelda has just as many RPG elements and claiming this is a role playing game just confuses the young ones on what RPG's actually are and about. This adventure game is worth a play through, combat is fun, the mini games that I have experienced are fun as well. The story is interesting and oriental mythology is a great way to go. The oriental names get on my nerves as they are all very similar which is strange since Bioware went well out of their way to make sure that all the characters in this game are distinct and memorable in appearance. I guess they had to do something. Oh and I love the American voice acting of oriental characters. It's like eating ramen instant noodles instead of going out for oriental.

Yeah, I've gotten within a .5 second from gold on one of those races...otherwise I bank on getting bronze. It's tough as hell when you start getting up to the S class races.....stupid fast cars there. I really need more money so I can afford them lol.

EVE Online - 9/10

My puny trial account doesn't know what to do right now. I'm trying to get some people to take me under their wing, as I dunno wtf I'm doing except for the missions. Although, so far, the game is extremely badass.

I completely lost myself in EVE, cant remember the reason for my quitting...oh thats right, WoW...

Sins Of A Solar Empire - 9/10

One of the simplest, ridiculously addicting strategy games ive played in years.

FarCry 2 fail/10

Got this at work today for free, so I wanted to give it a try, but the game wouldn't let me. At first it crashed just after the 'tutorial' started. I took that as a cue I needed new drivers, so after installing those, I tried again. Now the BSOD struck even before the actual gameplay started, during the cab ride. Guess this game is not for me, unless someone knows what might be the problem. It looked and sounded pretty good while it lasted though.

Started S class last night, have you given the F40 1 lap Suzuka race a go yet ?

Professional physics, no aids, just madness. Took me over an hour to finally come in third and gain bronze, with the front 2 cars 4-5 seconds ahead. Good job i managed it because i was slowly losing my mind !

:frown:

They need to adjust certain challenge difficulties for the full game, because i can't see how over a sub 2 minute 30 lap you can gain another 5 seconds.

Left 4 Dead.

nice and simple: 9.25/10

why? the story is a little too disconnected for my VALVe taste. VERY good multiplayer and gameplay.

just the game's way of warning you about the crappy game that's soon to follow.

Flower 9/10

after a crazy day at work (2 people called in sick today) and all the stupid people made my head hurt. once i played Flower I felt much better. its such a peaceful and bright game. i wish we had more of these around. Now all i want to see is an art game that focuses solely on creating art on a canvas and just having fun.

The Longest Journey - Perfection/10

Can't believe i waited 10 years to play this, i'm amazed, it was a fantastic experience. Now i'm playing Dreamfall, but its a bit disapointing for now.

Empire: Total War Demo - 7/10

Naval battles are sweet. Ground battles seem solid, but pretty much more of the same. Kinda buggy.

Street Fighter 4: :O :) :D :bounce:!! :rolling: :E :O/10

Dawn Of War 2 - 8/10

Loses a point for repitition and a point for too many problems with installation, bugs etc.

Other than that, its pretty good fun. SP is just a futuristic version of CoH.

GTA IV PC 8/10

Finally finished this the other day and thought I'd put up my review of it.

Be aware spoilers if you haven't played.

Graphically amazing given the sheer enormity of the playing field and the abundance of activity going on around you with the pedestrians etc. However at the same time kind of let down by the lack of places to go in other ways. I expected there to be a lot more variety of shops, bars, clubs, restaurants to go to. That there were so few places you could interact with outside of the mission structure tended to negate the urge to explore the city more fully (I don't think I bothered getting a train or subway ride anywhere unless I had to tbh).

Taking a leaf from Jeff Green I also found the puerile humour of the older games in terms of the advertising, the radio banter etc, etc out of step and at odds with the both the nature of the main storyline and the deeper realism of the game world. I'm not saying I'd have wanted rockstar to have played it all straight, but I think they could of dialled it back a bit and aimed for a bit of sophistication in the satire instead of going for the obvious toilet humour at every opportunity (CNT, TW@, Americas top hooker, etc, etc), the games supposed to be for adults after all.

Story wise I thought it was entertaining but not particularly deep, and all the good work done at the beginning to make Nikko a sympathetic character is unfortunately rapidly undone in the later missions, when much of his actions cross over from regrettably necessary into the wholly reprehensible ("I'll take her" being a prime example). I think a lot of this (and the problems with the humour) stems from the fact that the games writing team is pretty small (Dan Houser, Rupert Humphries & Laslow according to the listings), and that after X number of GTA games working together they are pretty much devoid of original ideas. Getting in a bunch of seasoned TV scripters to take over the reins for future titles would be no bad thing in my view.

Game play wise it delivered. The combat was better than previous games, though the cover system was extremely painful at times. I actually preferred the handling of the cars in this more so than in the previous games, though the boats and helicopters seemed almost entirely superfluous outside of the missions as a means of conveyance.

Personally I didn't mind the friends & girlfriend outings too much if nothing more than it was fun to listen to their dialogues. However the fact that you have to taxi everyone everywhere instead of just meeting up was definitely a pain.

Overall, worth playing if you've played the previous titles, and to marvel at the visual richness but still a long way from where it could be.

It's a 3.25/4 in disguise.

6-10 point scale rating and all that. ;)

FEAR 2 8/10

Good, solid and satisfying action game. It does seem a little light on exposition compared to the first game which is a shame and most games have now evolved somewhat that I find corridor shooters can get abit boring if played for too long in one sitting (thus why i've took my time to finish this).

It is certainly another case of a game that has contracted consolitis IMO. Things like the quick time events and dumber AI are noticeable and the environments are still alittle repetitive at times (miles better variety than the first though). If you liked the first you'll like this but probably not as much.

Oh and ****ing strange ending o_O Can't wait for the third now :)

Tank Beat
8/10

Pretty fun, never played something quite like this.

Fallout 3

I'm not going to give it a rating yet, but I picked it up again after only giving it two weeks on-off play (whilst juggling Dead Space and Far Cry 2 at the time of my first playthrough) and I'm going through it now with a much more open mind and actual time to get stuck in with all the details I usually don't care much for - stats, perks, actually taking note of percentages, numbers and other small details and exploring the map and locations to the fullest.

I know I was very harsh on the game a few months ago, and the flaws and lazy design options are still here this time, but goddamn if I'm not enjoying the hell out of it. I don't know what changed in me but now I'm actually putting all my game time into what this has to offer I can see what a fun game it is. I realised alot of flaws I made in my first game were what made it so unfun to play. A few months ago, I was wearing a radioactive suit because it looked awesome and I barely read any of the perks - had I come across something like Fortune Finder the first time I wouldn't of had such a lack of Stimpacks or ammo, whereas now I'm actually becoming overencumbered by the amount of missiles and fat man nukes I have.

I'm feeling very positive about a game I was ridiculously negative about. I'm downloading Operation Anchorage now because what the hell, I only ever buy DLC once a year and that's for Halo MP maps. I guess this year I'll just be buying two DLC. Oh well!
